We had a wonderful weekend celebrating the 200th Anniversary of Reigate Tunnel in Tunnel Road, Reigate. We were very pleased to obtain Listed Building Consent and Planning approval for the Commemorative Plaque that was unveiled on Sunday morning by Jennifer Clare Smith, an ancestor of polymath William Constable who constructed Reigate Tunnel in 1823. The Tunnel was commissioned to speed up the journey from London To Brighton and is now recognised as Britain’s oldest road tunnel. It was magnificent to see the Horse Omnibus back in town once again along with a whole host of vehicles through the ages. The plaque permissions were a collaborative effort with @ws_pa, Heritage Consultant Sarah Sullivan and Unusual Expo who designed the Commemorative plaque. Thank you to @reigateguild for organising the Celebration Weekend. Image 1 - A proud Daniel Baty, Graduate Heritage Consultant at WS Heritage.
