Daniel Baty

BA (HONS), MA, ACIfA
Heritage Consultant

Daniel joined the WS Heritage team in January 2023.

He graduated from the University of Winchester with a degree in BA (Hons) Ancient, Classical and Medieval Studies in 2018. He then went on to graduate with an MA in Cultural Heritage and Resource Management in 2019. During this time, he developed a keen interest in built heritage which has led to pursuing a career as a consultant.

Daniel has specialised in the cultural heritage of British pubs, which was the focus of his masters dissertation. Furthermore, he has a specialisation in Anglo-Saxon and Viking archaeology and history which was a major focus of his undergraduate studies.

In April 2024, Daniel obtained accrediation as a Professional Archaelogogist.

Gaining CIfA accreditation at Associate level demonstrates that he is professional archaeologist working in the public interest. In order to achieve accreditation, Daniel needed to demonstrate that he has the relevant skills, competence and understanding and be able to provide evidence and references to support this.
Being awarded professional accreditation by CIfA is a significant achievement. It is a recognisable indication to other professional archaeologists of their skills & commitment to maintain and enhance these skills through continuing professional development. It also distinguishes Daniel as someone who has agreed to comply with an ethical code of conduct and the standards which professional archaeologists have collectively agreed to impose upon themselves.

In his spare time Daniel enjoys playing grass roots rugby at the local Reigate RFC, as well as performing at the occasional open mic night locally.
