Although not statutorily designated in its own right, given its origins and the contribution made by this towards an understanding of Oxted’s mid to late C19 evolution, this brick stable building was individually recognised as both a non-designated heritage asset and a positive contributor towards overarching Oxted Conservation Area.
First appearing on Ordnance Survey Mapping of 1868, this was originally central to a C19 agricultural complex or yard but by 2023, remained the only surviving structure. Approvals were then given for the residential development of the site and in order to mitigate the building’s loss, conditions attached to this permission required a Level 2 Historic Building Record.
This was undertaken in accordance with Historic England guidance and sought to discharge conditions attached to permissions under references TA/2022/1222 (condition 4) and TA/2021/2149 (condition 5). These were successfully discharged on the 24 June 2024.
