The site forms part of grade II listed Nos. 371 & 373 Clapham Road, designated in 1981. The site is also located within the Clapham Road Conservation Area.
The civil parish of Clapham forms part of the metropolitan borough of Wandsworth. Clapham Road itself is located between the historic settlements of Stockwell and Clapham.
One of the earliest representations of the building is with the 1842 title map. It is clear that the building forms part of a wider terrace with all buildings therefore abutting one another.
Given the special architectural and historic interest of the building, the list description for this may be summarised as follows: Early C19 pair, each of 3 storeys, attic and basement in centre block; slightly set back entrance bays – No 371 full height, No 373 two storeys and wider. Stock brick. No 373 has first floor cill band. Stucco frieze, cornice and blocking course. Hipped slated mansard with dormer. Gauged flat brick arches to sash windows with glazing bars, in round-arched recesses on ground floor. No 373 has 4-panel door with free-standing columns supporting cornice head; fanlight with vertical bars; also a later C19 extension in similar style. No 371 has been much altered: mansard gone, also top trim; plain stuccoed front and modern door, also modern left extension; but included because inseparable from No 373.
