22 Thornton Road in London SW12

Project Outline

Although not statutorily listed, the application site is located within the near setting of a Grade II listed building, and within the Hyde Farm Conservation Area, designated in 1996.

Proposals comprised demolition of the existing detached dwelling occupying the site, and its replacement with a five-storey block to provide nine new apartments. The proposed block will replace a 1960-70’s, non-traditional building which is unsympathetic to the character and appearance of the designated locale, and the setting of the listed building.

The scheme sought to achieve a high-quality design in a contemporary ethos that is more reflective of its immediate context and the surrounding locale in terms of scale, whilst exhibiting a distinctive, innovative proposal that is authentically and legibly of its time.
