Former RAF Kenley – OneSchool Global, Tandridge

Project Outline

The application site comprised the former Dining Room and Institute of former RAF Kenley, built in 1932; now part of the OneSchool Global Kenley Campus and a Grade II listed building designated in 2001.

It also lies within Kenley Aerodrome Conservation Area, designated in 2006. Once the Navy, Army, and Air Force Institute building, approvals were given in 2015 for the site’s change of use to a secondary school.

Later proposals comprised three sensitively designed interventions to include the internal and external alteration of the main school building; the alteration of the former parade ground to a play and/or sports area; and a two-storey side-extension.

Proposals sought to maximise the use, functioning, and therefore efficiency of the school more generally, whilst from a policy perspective, supporting the more efficient, sustainable use of land whilst protecting the historic environment.
