LISTED BUILDINGS

The Planning (Listed Building and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 sets special controls for demolishing, altering, or extending buildings of historic or architectural interest.

Listed buildings, recorded on the national List, require extra permissions beyond normal planning. Historic England manages the system, with final decisions by the Secretary of State.
